Matt and Mari both grew up in Beaverton, Oregon, attending the same school and sharing childhoods alongside each other’s siblings. Yet, their lives didn’t truly intersect until years later. They continued to cross paths at church, serving in high school and music ministry and participating in the same community group.
Throughout their twenties, they became good friends but seemed to be on separate paths. Mari had returned to Beaverton to help her family after overseas opportunities closed, expecting her future to unfold in Oregon. Matt, meanwhile, envisioned a bachelor’s life of solo travel, exploring the world, and meeting new people wherever he went. However, God had other plans.
Instead of continuing in their separate directions, they both found themselves in Central Asia—and everything changed.
In July, Matt and Mari got engaged, ready to build a life together. Now, as their wedding day draws near, they are filled with anticipation for the future. After the ceremony, they’ll return to Central Asia to continue their journey as a couple.
Their story is one of unexpected twists and divine timing, but it is also the kind of love that is meant to last forever.
The end—or perhaps, the beginning.
